Ceramic Coatings

Ceramic coatings are a mixture of solvents and silica combinations with a combination of TiO2 (Titanium Dioxide) and SiO2 (Silica Dioxide) and solvents which hold the TiO2 and SiO2 in suspension while the product is applied to the surface. The primary use of TiO2 is to apply its excellent light-scattering properties that provide transparency and maximum ultraviolet light absorption such as in sunscreens. SiO2 (Silica Dioxide) is found naturally in quartz and is water repellent, hard, self-healing and bonds with great surface tension. These combined properties make ceramic coatings extremely hydrophobic, scratch and contaminant resistant, and very shiny and brilliant to look at.

While these two compounds are great they need solvents to carry and apply them to the surface of paint and to facilitate that solvents hold them in suspension in liquid. Once the product is applied to the surface of the paint and after the solvent “flashes” off they are buffed to a brilliant shine and levelled at the same time. The process is labor intensive and requires a sharp eye to make sure the product is evenly applied with great attention to detail. If done incorrectly, the product will create high spots and look terrible and require a lot of extra work to fix.
